“Newsaint” – Terry Allen

Newstaints by Terry Allen, Bronze, 1991

I had the chance to visit the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University today with my parents and grandpa.  The museum is beautiful and they had some very interesting exhibits while we were there.  This bronze sculpture was my favorite piece there.

I like the different ways you can interpret this piece and the mixing of contemporary and traditional elements.  You can see it as members of the media are new saints,  and the public embracing these saints because they provide them with the truth.  Yet, the sculpture is headless so the viewers question the reliability of the source.

Dual levels of interpretation – I like.  Plus, the tie is so badass looking.
